If you are sick, you go to the doctor. If your tooth hurts, you go to the dentist. If you are experiencing challenges with your mental health, you do nothing.

Wait, that doesn’t sound right! Why wouldn’t you get help for your mental health? Well maybe because we’ve been conditioned to believe that struggling with mental health is abnormal or an issue. Or maybe we don’t see the value of investing in resources to improve mental health. We might say, oh therapy is too expensive, or I’ll just talk to my friends and family, this too shall pass.

But what if it doesn’t? Getting help is vital! National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month is observed each July to bring awareness to the unique struggles that racial and ethnic minority communities face regarding mental illness in the United States (https://minorityhealth.hhs.gov/minority-mental-health/).

Mental health doesn’t discriminate. Anyone can encounter challenges with their mental health. Just like you seek assistance to navigate everything else in life, you can seek assistance for this as well. Invest in yourself, invest in your wellness, and prioritize taking care of all parts of yourself.
